Mat Irvine was a guest at Wonderfest 2012 at the CultTVman booth. He has kindly autographed a limited number of copies for our shop!
Mat Irvine has compiled this exhaustive and all-inclusive guide to Real Space models. Its 350 photo filled pages jam-packed with information. Chapters are divided into Early Dreams [early spacecraft concepts], Wartime Experiences [rocket planes and missiles], Optimistic Times [von Braun designs and more], Man in Space [early US and Russian space programs], Missile Connection, One Small Step [Apollo], Gone To Launch [other rockets], Messages from Space [satellites], Edge of Space [aircraft], Reusable Spaceship [shuttles], Islands In The Space [space stations] and Beyond the Infinite [2001 designs]. And that's just the first half of the book, which is all in color! The rest of the book is a complete listing of kits produced divided by manufacturer and vehicle type. Virtually everything you ever wanted to know about each kit is detailed including reissues, box art, and so on. Even if you are not a Real Space builder, you will likely enjoy thumbing through this book from time to time. For the Sci-Fi Modeler, chapter 3 which covers the von Braun designs will be of great interest. This includes the classic Disney designs from their Man Into Space series. Many of these kits are still available from Glencoe Models. Chapter 12 is also of interest as it covers the designs and kits from 2001 A Space Odyssey and somehow manages to squeeze in kits based on UFOs!
